Our eyebrows are what frame our face. They’re like natural tools that help us read people’s emotions. We take care to groom them to help keep us looking our brightest, but somewhere down the line, you may start to realize that you need a little more than a good tweeze. That’s when you may find yourself considering an anti-aging surgical procedure known as a brow lift.
What is a Brow Lift?
There are a few variations of this anti-aging surgical procedure, but the most common is called the endoscopic brow lift. This is the most popular brow lift procedure because it is the least invasive and has a shorter recovery time.
To start the brow lift anti-aging surgical procedure, the doctor will make a few small incisions along the hair line: three at the top of the forehead and one on either side of your head a couple inches above the ears. A small tubular camera called an endoscope is inserted into an incision to help guide the doctor as he/she goes under the skin to manipulate, reposition, alter, or remove the muscle and tissue under the skin’s surface. Each incision is then sutured up horizontally to pull the brows upwards, achieving the desired brow lift. Fixation screws may also be used to hold the eyebrows in their new place.
Preparing for a Brow Lift
Although a brow lift is a relatively simple anti-aging surgical procedure and only takes one to two hours to complete, many factors need to be taken into consideration beforehand. During your consultation before the anti-aging surgical procedure is actually performed, the doctor will ask about your entire medical history, including past procedures, allergies, and what exactly you’re hoping to achieve with the brow lift. It is important to be clear and concise with your surgeon about your concerns to ensure optimal results. A brow lift can be performed under local or general anesthesia.
After Your Brow Lift–Side Effects and Risks
After the anti-aging surgical procedure is completed, your doctor will prescribe you pain medication and will have you follow specific instructions for at-home care. After a brow lift, patients can usually go home, but must have someone drive them. There will be some swelling and bruising, which should all dissipate within a week or so. Any scars will be hidden, as all cuts are made into the hairline.
About a week after having the anti-aging surgical procedure done, brow lift stitches and/or staples will be removed and about two weeks afterwards, you can return to your normal daily routine. All surgeries, including simple anti-aging surgical procedures, come with risks, such as infection or bleeding. Other uncommon, but possible, side effects of a brow lift include blood clotting, numbness, fluid buildup, persisting pain, skin discoloration, and eye irritation. Although these risks are rare with a brow lift, always follow the doctor’s orders and keep incision sites clean and hygienic to ensure the safest outcome of your anti-aging surgical procedure.
Your brow lift may take several months to heal completely, but the results will last much longer. You can extend the results of this anti-aging surgical procedure even further by always utilizing sun protection and maintaining an anti-aging skin care routine to keep skin healthy.
Cost and Results of a Brow Lift
Prices run the gamut for brow lifts, depending upon years of experience and geographical location. All elective anti-aging surgical procedures are considered cosmetic and therefore aren’t usually covered by insurance. However, reputable clinics may offer payment plans and financing options based on your situation. Consultations can start at around $100 or more, but are usually applied to the grand total should you decide to go through with the anti-aging surgical procedure.
A lot of times, your doctor may suggest accompanying a brow lift with another anti-aging surgical procedure, like a face lift or eyelid tuck, for even better results. But even with just a brow lift, the result will be a natural, contoured lift in the eyebrows while also improving the surface of the skin on the forehead and high bridge of your nose, minimizing fine lines, deeper wrinkles, and sagging. With this anti-aging surgical procedure, a younger, more revitalized appearance is restored, not to mention a boost in self-confidence.
