Anti-Aging Surgical Procedures Explained

Anti-Aging Surgical Procedures ExplainedBrow Lift: Developing forehead wrinkles is an inevitable part of aging. People believe that undergoing anti-aging surgical procedures around the eye area, like a brow lift, can reinvigorate their appearance with a more youthful look. After an initial consultation, a surgeon will perform the procedure. They will make an incision, starting at your ears and going across the hairline. They will then remove the muscles and tissues responsible for wrinkles, as well as reposition tissues. Alternately, they may perform an endoscopic lift that involves making four incisions and using a small camera to see the muscles. This anti-aging surgical procedure typically takes one to two hours and involves an overnight stay.

Endoscopic Brow Lift: An endoscopic brow lift, or brow enhancement, is a minimally invasive anti-aging surgical procedure that elevates the eyebrows and minimizes wrinkles on the forehead. For the procedure, three small, puncture-like incisions are made along the hairline. The surgeon uses an endoscope, a small telescope, to eliminate the muscles that cause wrinkles. The surgeon then moves the muscles up higher on the forehead. The procedure takes one to two hours and the recovery time is seven to 14 days. There typically is bruising and swelling following this anti-aging surgical procedure, with minimal discomfort that can be managed with pain medication that the surgeon will prescribe.

Eye Bag Removal: Eye bag removal, or blepharoplasty, is one of the most common cosmetic anti-aging surgical procedures performed. It involves removing excessive fat and tightening up loose skin around the eyes. However, it should be noted that there are measures that can be taken to prevent eye bags, such as getting enough sleep and a proper diet. Genetics can also cause loose skin under the eyes. The anti-aging surgical procedure involves making an incision in the skin under the eyes with a scalpel or laser, then clearing out excess fat and tightening up the skin. It typically takes a week to 10 days to recover, with results becoming visible after 10 to 12 months.

Fat Transfer (also known as Fat Injections): Though it may seem completely counterintuitive, having fat injected into certain parts of the body is considered by many to be an excellent natural way to enhance certain features, such as the breasts, buttocks, or face. It can also be used to correct scars. In this anti-aging surgical procedure, the fat is typically harvested from the buttocks, abdomen, hips, or thighs using a special canula, a needlelike suction device that carefully removes the fat, which is then purified and injected into the desired location. Usually, 50–60% of the fat injected survives, so some overcorrection is needed to make up for this.

Facelift: A facelift, or rhytidectomy, is one of the best known cosmetic anti-aging surgical procedures. It’s said to smooth loose skin on one’s face and neck and tightens underlying tissue. The surgeon will remove any excess skin and tissue and tighten up the skin to give it a more youthful appearance. The scars will be hidden and typically fade after three to six months. The procedure itself takes two to three hours and will require a one- to two-day hospital stay. The results of this common anti-aging surgical procedure are usually long-lasting, but will not stop the aging process.

Liposuction: No matter how much you exercise or diet, there’s always that one spot that just won’t shed the extra fat. For some, liposuction is one, albeit extreme, way to get rid of it. This anti-aging surgical procedure only takes one hour to 90 minutes to perform, and it’s usually an outpatient procedure. The surgeon performing the procedure makes a small incision in the area the fat is to be removed from, typically in an area that isn’t visible so as to minimize visibility of scarring. They will then use a thin tube called a “canula” to break up and suction out the fat. Bruising and swelling may occur for two to four weeks after getting liposuction, and the recovery time is 12 to 14 days.

Mini Facelift: If you want to rejuvenate the skin of your lower face and neck with minimal scarring, a mini facelift may be an option for you. This anti-aging surgical procedure is recommended for people in their 30s to 50s who may not have experienced the full effects of aging yet. An incision is made in the temporal area, the area around or right inside the ears. The skin is then lifted and tightened. Doctors recommend taking it easy for a week after the procedure. The bruising typically goes down after two to three weeks.

Neck Lift: Of all the parts of your body that reveal visible signs of aging, the neck is one of the worst. Neck lift surgery, or platysmaplasty, is a two-hour anti-aging surgical procedure involving the tightening of the skin of the neck. This procedure is often performed as an alternative to a facelift. A neck lift may also be performed on individuals who have loose skin due to significant weight loss or hereditary factors. A general anesthetic is used and an overnight stay at the hospital is required. Expect to see some bruising and swelling following this anti-aging surgical procedure, but the scars should fade after a few weeks.
