The holidays are here along with the Christmas parties and the pressure to look fabulous! The only question is what to wear to your festive gatherings this season. We here at Agein have brought together some of the best Christmas party outfit ideas for your holiday party 2016 style. Whether it’s a cocktail party, sit down dinner, or family gathering, we’ve got your Christmas party attire inspiration.
This time of the year sees major department stores expanding their evening gown selection by double or even triple the amount of styles they regularly carry. The holidays are such a wonderful time of year, and what makes them even more special is that it’s the one time of year where fabrics like velvet and sequins are appropriate at any occasion! Picking out evening dresses can be stressful for some, and may leave many women disheartened when it comes to shopping for the right style to fit them properly.
Many women don’t like dressing up, and find wearing formal evening gowns to be uncomfortable and unflattering. Allure magazine asked Claire Distenfeld, the chic founder of Fivestory boutique in New York City, about dressing for the holidays. “Most people equate dressing up with discomfort, and it becomes an emotional thing. But you need to erase that thinking because you can look elevated and comfortable.” There are a lot of things to take into consideration when it comes to your Christmas party outfit ideas. The best place to start is to think about the go-to pieces that you already love in your everyday wardrobe, then find their dressier next-of-kin version. If you love feeling cozy in a knit sweater, why not opt for a long sleeve knit evening dress that clings to the body without crossing the line into a body-con style.
Like more of a feminine look? Try an evening dress with lace overlay that has some stretch to the fabric to be comfortable at any function. If you like to follow trends, and want to stand out at your next party, why not step out in this season’s newest look—cut out shoulders or a funky velvet dress. If those styles won’t work for your fancier parties this year, and you need more evening gown dresses, try to choose a neutral style that you will be able to wear again. Go for a black evening gown, or even a gold evening gown that you can accessorize differently for each party, giving you a completely different look.
Try pairing the black evening gown with large silver statement earrings, a sparkling silver sequin clutch and silver shoes. For a totally different look, wear a grey fur bolero over the shoulders of the evening gown, and accessorize with black and navy blue crystal bracelets with a traditional black heel. Macys evening gown selection is one of the best, and no matter what style you want, they will be sure to have it!
What to Wear to a Casual Christmas Party
After discussing dresses for Christmas parties, we know that not all functions this time of year are formal occasions. A lot of Christmas parties are becoming more casual, and those call for different Christmas party outfit ideas. For those get togethers, follow the same rules of staying true to your style and step out in a more polished version of your everyday attire. For example, if you are a jeans and black shirt type of girl, why not try a black tank embroidered with black sequins and a classic black heel with your jeans. If you feel like this look would be too chilly, add a relaxed black blazer over top of the tank top. This will keep you in your comfort zone, yet stay stylish and add a little bit of sparkle for the festive season.
With so many styles and fabrics to choose from, if you stay true to your own style, you will be comfortable and still look fabulous this holiday season.
