National lipstick day falls in July, but we feel it should really be celebrated somewhere over the holidays! Christmas is a great time to try out all the different holiday makeup trends, especially the color pop lipstick looks. With all the holiday parties and festive gatherings, make this the time to try that power red or peppy plum you’ve wanted to wear, but didn’t have the occasion.
Now is the time to try the trends and get noticed at all your holiday parties! With lots of sales on Christmas lipstick sets going on right now, it seems like the perfect time to snag your new favorite shade. You can find great deals in MAC Cosmetics Christmas collections, or at one of the other cosmetic brands offering lipstick kits this holiday season.
A comfortable and moisturizing lipstick is a good choice during the winter months. Dark, vampy lips have crossed over from fall to winter, and while the trend can be a little intense, if you scale it back a bit, you can look chic and refined instead of gothic. We recommend Burberry’s Ox Blood, a beautiful shade of dark berry that is on the rose-mauve spectrum. This peppy plum shade will provide you with the dark rich color you want, but without the look of going too rich.
The History of a Sexy Red Lip
Get on the most classic trend this season and get power red color pop lipstick. Try MAC lipstick Shadescents in color Lady Danger to stand out at any holiday party. The first thing guests will notice is your sultry, sexy red lips as you walk through the door. Red lipstick has a surprisingly tumultuous history, and may be one of the most powerful symbols of female beauty and sexuality in the Western world. Use this to your advantage this season with the red trend in high demand. Just be sure to get a good lip liner and outline your pucker so the colour doesn’t stray from your lips.
With the high contrast this season between the stark white color of winter, and the dark rich colored lips, the trends seem very Haute Couture or avant-garde. Just be sure to not look like you have just stepped off the runway by making your skin too pale in comparison to the dark hue of the lipstick colors. Lets leave that look to the girls on the runways, and just take the inspiration of the velvety rich lip color.
If you tend to be more of a natural lip color girl, why not take the time this holiday season and try some color pop lip gloss. It has all the benefits of lipstick, by adding just a hint of color and shine. This is a more youthful and fresh take on a lip look for the season that complements glowing skin. You can still go by the plum and red shades that are on trend this season, just in a more toned down way. If that is still too much color for you, try a nude lipstick that is still within trend this season, like this lip color in Blush Nude from Tom Ford Beauty, which offers a polished look without the color. A nude matte lipstick will give a chic look with an understated elegance.
No matter what color pop lipstick trend you want to try this season, almost every cosmetic brand is offering some great deals this holiday season. Now is the time to move slightly out of your comfort zone and try something new for the holidays. Let your personality pop through with your choice of lip this season!
