However, there are some simple DIY treatments that you can do in order to fade those acne marks. Use these simple ingredients that can be found around your home to create home remedies for acne scars.
How to Remove Acne Scars at Home
- Baking Soda
A great acne scar remedy, you only need to use this method once or twice a week to see results. Prepare a paste by mixing 2 teaspoons of baking soda in water and apply to the affected area. After 5 minutes, rinse with warm water.
You may be questioning how to remove pimple marks with oatmeal, but this common breakfast food is actually a very nourishing exfoliant. Add the juice from half a lemon and one teaspoon of honey to one cup of cooked oatmeal. Massage your skin with the mixture and let it sit for half an hour on your face. Rise with warm water.
- Fuller’s Earth
A calcium-based clay, this is a popular ingredient in facial masks. It’s considered to be one of the best acne and acne scar treatments because of its oil-absorbing properties. Prepare your mask my mixing equal parts fuller’s earth, sandalwood powder, and rosewater. Apply to your face and let it dry before rinsing with warm water. Repeat once a week for best results.
- Rose Water & Sandalwood
Get rid of acne scars with an overnight mask made of rose water and sandalwood. Create a paste using equal parts of each ingredient and apply to your face. Sleep with the mask on and rinse with warm water in the morning.
- Olive Oil
Rub a few drops into your face before showering and wash with a soap containing glycerin. Do this as often as you need to until you see improvements.
- Egg White
Mix equal parts lemon juice and egg whites. Apply to your face, let it dry, and go to bed. Rinse with warm water in the morning.
- Cucumber Juice
After juicing your cucumber, combine with plain yogurt. Apply to your scars and leave for about 20 minutes before rinsing.
Alternatively, you can apply a mask of just yogurt to your scars. The nourishing properties will help fade the dark marks
Mix equal parts honey and lemon juice to make a facial mask to get rid of your acne marks. The honey will soften the effects of the lemon and make it more gentle for your skin.
- Vitamin E
This antioxidant oil will work wonders for your acne scars. Begin by steaming your face so your pores open up, and then massage the vitamin E oil into your skin for 10 minutes. Let it sit on your skin for 10-15 minutes, and then rinse with warm water.
- Apple Cider Vinegar
Use diluted apple cider vinegar as a toner to help fade your scars. Add a few drops of vinegar to a cup of water, and apply to your face with a cotton ball.
Dissolve two to three aspirin tablets in water and add two tablespoons of honey to form a paste. Wait for 15 minutes and rinse with warm water.
- Cocoa Butter
Cocoa butter has extreme moisturizing properties, so you can be sure your skin will stay smooth and hydrated with this treatment. Simply apply cocoa butter to your scars as needed.
- Cod Liver Oil
This is a sure-fire way to lighten the acne marks on your face. Apply cod liver oil to the affected areas with a q-tip or fingertips twice a day, and you’ll see incredible improvements!
- Rosehip Seed Oil
Using a similar method of application as with the cod liver oil. Apply this treatment twice a day to the affected areas.
- Lavender Oil
The scent of lavender tends to make people sleepy, so it’s best to do this treatment before bed. Simply massage your skin with the lavender oil and rinse in the morning.
- Tea Tree Oil
Tea tree oil is one of the more popular natural treatments for acne and acne scars because of it’s oil absorbing and healing properties. This oil is very harsh, so be careful to only use a tiny amount exactly where you need it. If your skin is sensitive, you can even use a carrier oil like olive or almond oil, and add a few drops of the tea tree in to make it less harsh. Apply with a q-tip or fingertips to the affected areas before going to bed
- Aloe Vera Gel
Aloe Vera is a proven acne treatment and works just as well to get rid of acne scars. Home Remedy Hacks says:

- Chamomile Tea
Prepare chamomile tea and use it to rinse your face. You may also place the tea bags directly onto your scars and let them soak.
