First of all, an anti-aging detox is not a diet. These days, it seems like a lot of people are looking to do a detox for the purpose of quickly dropping a few pounds, rather than using it for what it is actually meant for. An anti-aging detox is not intended to be a weight loss diet.
Detoxing is supposed to be done to help the body eliminate toxins that have built up over time. These toxins come from many of the chemicals we ingest daily through the air we breathe, the water we drink, and, unfortunately, from the food we eat. Toxins are things like pesticides, antibiotics, hormones, and chemicals that are added to packaged and processed foods. Let’s not forget all of the toxins that we are exposed to in household cleaners and detergents. When our body is overpowered by these pollutants and is lacking the proper vitamins and nutrients it needs, its ability to naturally detoxify is significantly impaired. When the body is not able to rid itself of all of the waste, it can lead to illness, hormonal imbalance, inefficient metabolism, and an impaired immune system. An anti-aging detox helps your body perform what it’s naturally supposed to.
Anti-Aging Detox Plans: What You Can and Can’t Eat
There are many anti-aging detox plans available and each one generally minimizes any ingested chemicals—many of the plans suggest only eating organic food. The foods that are on an anti-aging detox plan will provide the vitamins, nutrients, and antioxidants your body requires to flush itself of waste. Most foods will be high in fiber. The other requirement for a successful detox is a large amount of water.
Anti-aging detox plans generally eliminate wheat and dairy from your diet. Wheat is one of the most common allergens found in foods like bread, pasta, and some breakfast cereals. Dairy products are often replaced with almond and rice milks, which are very flavorful. Red meats are generally removed, as they are harder for your body to digest and often contain a high level of saturated fats. Lunch meats are also removed from your diet because they contain high levels of salt and artificial preservatives.
Possible Side Effects of an Anti-Aging Detox
While in the process of your anti-aging detox, you may encounter some common side effects. Headaches generally occur within the first two or three days due to caffeine withdrawal, so you may want to consider decreasing your caffeine intake a few days before starting any anti-aging detox plan. Other side effects include diarrhea—after all, you’re flushing your system. It’s also possible to get constipated when doing an anti-aging detox if you’re not drinking enough water because you’re eating a lot of fiber.
After Your Anti-Aging Detox
So what can you expect after your anti-aging detox? Most people find that they have more energy, improved digestion, and better skin—you’ll just feel better overall now that you’ve rid your body of the toxins and waste that have just been sitting there.
It is important to remember that an anti-aging detox is not for everyone. You should be in optimal health before starting any type of detox. Anyone with liver or kidney disease, or any other medical condition, should not attempt any detox without consulting their health professional.
