The study involved 98 adults over the age of 55 and looked at memory functions at two intervals: at the beginning of the study and after 12 weeks. Researchers used assessments to measure visual, audio-verbal, and subjective memory using a series of different industry tests. The findings revealed that the participants who took a 300mg dose of Bacopa extract daily for 12 weeks performed significantly better on the assessments, indicating an improvement memory acquisition and memory retention. Other studies have found similar results, providing even further proof that Bacopa might actually be one of the best herbs for health, at least for mental health and wellness.

Bacopa monnieri can also be classified as one of the best herbs for health and wellness thanks to its possible effects on reducing oxidative stress that can lead to the development of neurological dysfunctions like Parkinson’s and Alzheimer’s.

However, Bacopa monnieri isn’t just useful in herbal remedies for memory and cognitive function. Here are a couple more reasons why it could be classified as one of the best herbs for health:

 Health and Wellness• Stress management: A 2002 study found that Bacopa monnieri altered an enzyme related to stress response in rats that would allow them to be better prepared to deal with stress. Whether or not this has the same results in humans is still unknown, but the findings indicate that the herb may affect the way the brain responds to signals of stress.

• Liver health: Research has shown that the herb may help to promote healthy liver function by protecting against liver damage. Your liver is responsible for detoxifying your body by filtering blood, making bile, breaking down hormones and toxins, and regulating blood sugar, among a long list of other functions, making healthy liver function absolutely essential.

• Inflammation: A 2014 study showed that Bacopa has potential to be included in herbs for health and wellness, because it may help to manage inflammation caused by the autoimmune system. Side Effects of Bacopa Monnieri

As is the case with other herbal remedies, Bacopa monnieri can come with side effects that you should be aware of. The herb may cause dry mouth, nausea, stomach cramps, more frequent bowel movements, fatigue, and possibly heart palpitations.
