
Kidnap star Halle Berry, 50, shared her longevity, anti-aging, and beauty secrets that have helped her maintain her flawless skin. When Berry was only 19 years old, she was diagnosed with type 2 diabetes.
She felt weak while filming Living Dolls (1989),
“I thought I could tough it out, but I couldn’t have been more wrong,” she told Daily Mail.
She explains passing out one day and not waking up for seven more days.
“Diabetes caught me completely off guard. None of my family had suffered from the illness and although I was slightly overweight in school, I thought I was pretty healthy.”
Berry has found ways to deal with her illness and it shows. Known for her natural, seemingly effortless beauty, Berry shares her skin care regimen and anti-aging secrets to help those who are struggling.
Beauty Begins with a Healthy Lifestyle
Berry was told she would need daily injections of insulin for the rest of her life and a complete transformation of her diet. Now that she is 50, she feels better than ever.
She told LA Times,
“As I get older, I am more conscious of what I eat.”
Today she doesn’t eat processed grains like bread and pasta. She also never abused alcohol and never smoked or did drugs, as she told Entertainment Tonight,
“The way you treat your body and what you put in it, I think is what shows on your face and that’s really, I think, the secret.”
For Berry, beauty starts from within. Eating healthy improves your cells, which improves your skin, which provides you the perfect canvas if you wish to wear makeup. Berry is known for her barely-there makeup looks, and often prefers not to wear makeup. She certainly doesn’t need it!
Diet isn’t the only part of her lifestyle that has changed. Berry has included daily exercise to stay in good physical condition and health.
“I do exercises that involve my own body weight, because I never want to get too muscly. When my work schedule permits, sometimes I work out with a female trainer. No matter what, every day I exercise for at least 30 minutes,” Berry told the Los Angeles Times.
As a result of her new diet, free from sugar, processed foods and red meat, she was able to slowly wean off her insulin dependence. On Bravo TV Berry shared how she had a healthy pregnancy at age 46 without needing to rely on insulin! Since she was in full control of her diet and sugar levels, there no longer became a need for the insulin.
Reducing Stress with Meditation
Stress can do serious harm to the body and manifests itself through physical ailments—even when it comes to our skin! Berry began adding yoga to her exercise regime to help alleviate stress. In her recent Instagram photo, she shared how much daily mediation enhanced her life. She also shared how it changed her perspective of life’s challenges and brought clarity to help her see the greater picture.
Beauty begins on the inside and Berry continues to live by that philosophy.
