Sometimes all you need is a little bit of color on a gloomy day, or to help boost the nice day you’re already having. Actresses Lucy Hale, Olivia Munn, Emma Stone, Zoe Saldana, and Joan Smalls all seem to be into the blue eyeliner and eye shadow makeup movement.

We can’t say we blame them because they rock the makeup look very well. Blue lipstick and blue eye makeup isn’t anything new, but this may be the first time we’ve seen so many celebrities do it at once—and everyone looks gorgeous!

Pretty Little Liars actress Lucy Hale has tried on her fair share of makeup but has never been so taken with the once-off-limits color.

“Lucy told me around five years ago that I could try any makeup look on her, but that she’d never wear blue,” Lucy’s makeup artist Kelsey Deenihan told Cosmopolitan. “It always felt too over the top and too ’80s to her.”

Looks like Hale changed her mind and added some blue to her new blonde look. According to Cosmopolitan, the Pretty Little Liars star said once the show is done filming, she could play with her look more and embrace her alter ego. By the looks of things, that’s exactly what Hale has been doing.

After seeing mega-star Rihanna try on her own blue lipstick, Hale was inspired to try it out for herself. After all, what’s good for RiRi, is good for you!

“I also feel like this is something that Marc Jacobs would do right now,” Hale added. “I’m finally ready to try it!”

But Hale wasn’t the only stunner in town. Star Trek star Saldana was also in the blue mood at the AMAs red carpet on Sunday. The Guardians of the Galaxy star was out of this world with her smoky eye and blue eye shadow look. She wore her hair in a half up do, which meant fans got to see more of her flawless face.

X-Men: Apocalypse star Munn and La La Land star Emma Stone have also been seen on red carpets lately with the signature shade of blue.

Blue Makeup Tips

Here are a few things to remember when applying blue lipstick or eye shadow:

  • Never try to match blue eye shadow to your clothes, because too much blue may not look good on you.
  • Always keep palettes simple; you don’t want too much color all over you.
  • Try to avoid going for dark lip colors because they may undo the work you did to get the blue to show.
  • It’s nice to blend the softer, darker blue colors to the lash line and provide a wash of blue, mixed into the dark color.
  • Feel free to add some metallic hues for an edgier look and to make it your own. For this, you won’t need the dark color.
