Makeup Removal Tips: The Best Ways to Remove Makeup Naturally

Removing makeup

We often try countless makeup products, beauty tips, and tricks suggested by friends and family. With the glamour industry buzzing with new and improved products every other day, it becomes a task to choose which one is the best for you. Among all this trying and testing of trendy makeup products, it’s our skin that suffers the most.

Layers and layers of makeup when piled on, make the skin dull and lifeless. It also eliminates the skin’s natural glow and blocks pores. Since the skin is unable to breathe and makeup clogs its pores, the after-effects of unclean skin like blemishes, spots, acne, and dry skin starts to appear.

After a prolonged period of neglecting the skin, the use of professional treatments, like chemical peels, is required to shed off the damaged outer layer and reveal the untouched layer beneath. Such processes pinch your pocket to a great extent with added pain, waste of time, and irritation to sensitive skin. To avoid all this, it is essential to take care of your skin from the very beginning.

Even if your lifestyle requires you to wear a ton of makeup every day, make sure it is removed effectively at the end of the day. A number of makeup removers are available, however, most of these are loaded with chemicals that can lead to skin damage in the removal process. The answer? Opt for healthy, natural and easy makeup removers that can be made in the comfort of your home. The best part is that fresh and natural ingredients can be used to remove makeup without giving it a second thought.

Mentioned here are some easy tips to prepare your own makeup removers at home.

Natural Makeup Removal Tips

Natural Oils

Using store-bought cleansers are loaded with oils and creams. Depending on your skin type, most of them generally react in two ways: by either making it excessively dry or by making it oily. To stop this from happening, use natural oils to gently remove makeup from your skin.

Natural oils do not block pores but provide hydration and make skin glossy, healthy, and supple. Simply dab a few drops on a cotton ball and remove makeup using clean strokes. Using this tip regularly also helps prevent anti-aging and makes skin glow.

Olive oil is one of the best natural oils to use as it contains softening and skin-healing elements, making it the best option for dry skin. Castor oil and jojoba oil work best for sensitive skin. Lastly, you may also use a good baby oil to remove makeup. Baby oil works flawlessly, especially for mascara removal, which is the hardest product to remove. However, using baby oil makes it a breeze.

Milk is high in fat and protein, both which are essential for good skin care. Milk is also soothing and works well for sensitive skin. To make a milk-based natural cleanser, combine one teaspoon of pure almond milk with a bowl of whole milk. Soak a clean cotton ball in this liquid and use it all over your face. Wipe off with more cotton and pat dry. This method is cheap, effective, and very safe. Using chilled milk for this natural tip is great for acne- or blemish-prone skin. Milk works best for eye makeup removal since the area is very sensitive.

Loaded with anti-inflammatory properties, fresh cucumbers are soothing, cool, and give a refreshing after-effect. Most creams, moisturizers, and face packs use cucumbers because of these properties. A chilled cucumber works great as a natural makeup remover. To make it, peel and blend one cucumber into a fine paste. Use the juice to remove makeup with the help of a soft wash cloth or cotton ball. You may also combine it with a little milk or olive oil to eliminate stubborn makeup stains.

A great reliever of sunburns and dry skin, yogurt also works effectively as a natural makeup remover. This natural moisturizer can be simply used on its own to remove makeup. Soak a cotton ball with fresh yogurt and using circular motions, rub your face gently. Rinse it off with cool water. Using natural yogurt also makes the skin supple and soft.

Honey with Baking Powder

A natural and easy way to remove makeup, this method requires a washcloth with a small dollop of organic honey and a pinch of baking powder sprinkled on top. Use the cloth to gently remove makeup from your face and wash it off with cool water. Honey has nourishing properties and adds a glow to the face.

Use very little Vaseline or lip balm to remove eye makeup easily. This method is suitable only for eye makeup removal and should be followed up with a good cleanser to ensure the Vaseline or lip balm does not settle in the pores.

Witch Hazel

A wonderful natural ingredient, witch hazel removes makeup easily. It also locks in moisture, prevents drying of the skin, and helps clear acne, too. You can use it along with any good natural oil to help remove makeup gently.

Steam is a powerful and effective natural makeup remover. It is one of the easiest methods that requires only water. Simply heat up a basin full of water and lower your face, ensuring the steam vapors rise and touch your skin. After a couple of minutes, use a cotton ball to remove all traces of makeup. This method is good, but should be used with caution as it may result in skin burns.

Aloe Vera

A brilliant technique which combines aloe vera and olive oil, this natural method of makeup removal is super-quick, requires no effort, and works well for all parts of the face. Simply scoop the aloe gel and blend. Strain and discard the pulp. Mix the aloe water with a few drops of olive oil and use it with a washcloth or cotton ball to remove makeup. Aloe vera is naturally hydrating and soothing, and makes skin supple.
