Maybelline has just landed their first male spokesperson, and it’s none other than YouTube star MannyMUA. At just 25 years old, Manny Guttierez has managed to become a wildly successful beauty blogger with a following of millions. He’s been credited as one of the most influential men in makeup, leading the way for men who wear and own the makeup space. Guttierez is joined by Covergirl’s first-ever Coverboy, James Charles.

Manny joined fellow beauty blogger, Shayla Mitchell, also known as MakeupShayla on Youtube, for Maybelline’s Colossal Big Shot mascara campaign this year. The two bloggers made a series of promotional videos for the new mascara, entitled “The Boss Life.” The Maybelline New York campaign was Manny and Shayla’s first big project with the brand, and the team was ecstatic to have them on board. Anne-Marie Nelson Bogle, the senior vice president of marketing at Maybelline, told Refinery 29:

“We’re so excited to team up with Manny and Shayla, who are true leading influencers in the social media world, on our first ever video campaign that features influencers as the stars. The duo’s boss-like personalities, in which they unapologetically slay both their makeup looks and their professional lives, made them a perfect fit for the role.”

Both Manny and Shayla have huge personalities, which is why we agree that they were perfect for this project. Both YouTubers grew their channels on their own, and now boast millions of subscribers and followers on social media. They’ve both participated in collaborations with brands like Makeup Geek, Tarte, and Gerard Cosmetics, so working with a big brand like Maybelline was the next natural step for them.

Although Guttierez didn’t start his YouTube channel until 2014, he told Teen Vogue that he’d taken an interest in makeup from a young age, seeing his mother as his own beauty icon.

“As a child, I would watch my mom get ready for work and just sit there for hours watching her transform. However, it wasn’t until much later on that I really started to dabble in makeup myself.”

Manny is no stranger to sharing his personal life with his subscribers—he’s been extremely open about talking about his coming out, and being raised in a Mormon household. He’s definitely embraced the title of role model when it comes to young men and boys who want to wear makeup or pursue a career in the fields.

He told Refinery 29 that “I feel like men in beauty have to work a lot harder just to get credibility, because it’s such a women’s world,” a statement that we completely agree with. However, as more and more “beauty boys” gain popularity and are given opportunities like the ones he’s been granted, it will become easier for men to embrace their beauty loving habits.
