We’re all guilty of making new years resolutions that we don’t really intend on keeping each holiday season. There’s something about being on the cusp of a brand new year that makes us want to change for the better—and there’s nothing wrong with that! But it’s important to make resolutions that are simple and easy to keep, so that you can achieve a sense of accomplishment. Though you may never manage to cut cookies out of your diet completely or take a risk like moving to Paris, you can definitely do small things to improve yourself in the new year. We’ve come up with a few new year’s beauty resolutions that you’ll totally be able to keep after shedding your new year’s hair and makeup look, that’ll make you feel great:
Take Your Makeup Off Every Night
This is more important than you’ll realize. If you’ve fallen into the habit of sleeping in your makeup, then you need to change this ASAP! We couldn’t have said it better than Allure: “Cleansing your face on a daily basis is crucial for a clear complexion. If left on overnight, makeup and free radicals (from bus exhaust, the sun, germs on your cell phone) cause dead skin cells to build up, clogging pores and creating an uneven canvas for makeup application.” You can even take a shortcut and use makeup remover wipes when you’re feeling extra lazy—just make sure to take your makeup off one way or another before going to bed!
Clean Your Makeup Brushes
Technically, you’re supposed to clean your makeup brushes once a week. Yeah, once a week, not every three months! A tedious task, especially if you have a considerable collection, though it’s super important to keep your makeup brushes clean. The old makeup and grime in your brushes will clog your pores and cause you to break out. You don’t have to spring for an expensive cleaner though, baby shampoo will get the job done just fine.
Wear SPF Everyday
It’s imperative to protect your skin from the sun’s harmful rays, even in the winter. Get into the habit of using sunscreen and wearing a moisturizer or BB cream with SPF everyday, and you’ll thank us later. You can avoid early signs of aging and sun damage with this simple resolution.
Drink More Water
A natural beauty resolution, this simple tip will make you look and feel great. Staying hydrated will help you avoid a dehydrated, dull complexion and will instead promote healthy, glowing skin! Kickstart your new habit of a healthy daily water intake by purchasing a brand new reusable water bottle.
Step Out of Your Comfort Zone
It’s so easy to get stuck in a rut with your cosmetics routine. Having your favorite go-to makeup look or signature scent isn’t a bad thing, but it’s good to try something new every now and then. Set a goal of trying a new colored beauty product every month. Who knows, you may actually like that pop of blue eyeliner! Straying from your signature scent and trying different notes that you’re not used to can broaden your palette, and you might discover something unexpectedly pleasant.
