This year has been a big one in the beauty world. From wild trends like clown contouring to wearing 100 layers of foundation (for fun… we think), we’ve seen some pretty interesting beauty trends this year. Watching these crazy videos can be fun, but can also confuse you when trying to get your makeup routine down pact.
In our experience, keeping it simple is the best way to go. Leave the crazy 2016 beauty trends behind and make a New Year’s beauty resolution to keep your routine simple, and well, normal.
We’ve taken the advice of some celeb makeup artists and complied a list of eight tips that you should follow in 2017 to make sure you don’t get carried away with the insane trends that are bound to emerge.
Eight Tips to Follow
Fake Fuller Lashes
The best makeup artists swear by this tip. You can fake full lashes without having to wear falsies by tight-lining your upper eyelid with a dark eyeliner. A gel eyeliner works best, since once it dries, there’s no way it’ll budge. This trick will fill in sparse areas and have your lashes looking fuller than ever!
Fill in Your Hairline
A similar tip to the faux full lashes, but this one is for your hairline. When you consistently part your hair in the same spot or always pull your hair back into a tight pony, your hairline is bound to recede a little. Another celebrity makeup artist tip is to fill in the sparse areas with a little brow powder, and no one will know the difference!
Gone are the days when you had to use ten different products to achieve a full face. The most iconic makeup artists are total fans of multitasking products—even ones that aren’t advertised as multi-use! Using eye shadow as a face highlight, a blush as an eye shadow, or a lipstick as a cream blush is totally acceptable, and a super convenient tip for beauties on-the-go.
Do Lip Facials
Make your New Years makeup resolution to avoid dry lips. This is especially important if you live somewhere with cold weather! The cold and dry winter air can dry out your lips like nothing else. Get your hands on a good lip scrub, a moisturizing lip mask, and a soothing lip balm to combat chapped lips.
Bronze Your Bod
Everyone loves a bronzed goddess look, but it’s so important to remember to bronze your body to match. The last thing you want is to have a bronzed and glowing face, and a super pale body.
Make Your Foundation Moisturizing
If you have dry skin or want to make your favorite foundation a little more moisturizing, don’t be afraid to add a couple drops of your holy grail moisturizer to the mix. Celebrity makeup artists say that if you mix in a little before applying your foundation, it’ll make the formula more hydrating. This way, you don’t have to buy a different foundation for every season!
Make Your Foundation Luminous
While we’re fans of a matte finish, sometimes you’re just in the mood to glow brighter than ever before. Famous makeup artists say that a subtle way to add some glow to your overall makeup look is to add some liquid highlight to your foundation. This can brighten up any dull foundation, and give your look an extra oomph!
Use Shadow Shields
No one likes having to walk around with shimmery fallout on their cheek from applying eye-shadow. Avoid this beauty faux pas by using a shadow shield, placed just underneath your eye. If you don’t feel like spending the extra coin on these little face saving shields, you can hold a cotton round in the same place while you blend your shadow.
