Outlander star Sam Heughan took to Instagram this week to share an important message with his fans while wishing them happy holidays. The 36-year-old Scotland native has joined forces with the Cahonas Scotland Cancer Awareness charity to bring light to an important message this holiday season. The charity is committed to raising awareness of male cancers, and has just launched their Christmas campaign entitled, “Check your Bawballs.” Sam Heughan was one of many celebrities who were asked to help spread the word this holiday season about men’s health. The star took to Instagram for the Christmas campaign, posing Santa Claus style with some Christmas baubles, a Santa hat, and a suggestive holiday sweater. The photo was captioned, “All guys should be doing a regular Baw Check, or get a friend too! #checkYerBawballs @cahonasscotland have a Happy Holidays all!!” The cheeky slogan works well for the Scottish based charity, who have a hard time getting men to talk about testicular cancer. Other celebrities who took part in the bauble posing Instagram campaign were William Shatner, Graham McTavish, and Scottish band, The Proclaimers.
The Cahonas Scotland Cancer Awareness charity does very important work educating people about the signs and symptoms of testicular cancer and prostate cancer, and the importance of early detection. They spread the message to men reminding them to regularly examine their testicles, and are working to reduce the embarrassment and stigma relating to male cancers. Testicular cancer is a young man’s disease, and is the most common cancer in 15- to 44-year-old males. With treatment, it’s 97% curable, and that rises to 99% if caught in the early stages.
Sam Heughan, New Face of Barbour
Apart from spending time working with the male cancer awareness charity, Heughan has also just starred in a Barbour advert. In the advertisement, the Outland star is seen showing off his lumberjack skills while heading into the lush forest with his dogs by his side to find the perfect tree. When Heughan finds the tree, he whips out his trusty axe to take it down. As he is making his way through the forest, the camera zooms in on certain parts of his clothing, showing various features of the Barbour attire. The commercial also encourages viewers to check out the link to their seasonal Barbour blog, which is full of news and advice for the upcoming holidays.
Sam Heughan, who is best known for his role as Jamie Fraser on the hit TV series Outlander, had a holiday disappointment when he was snubbed at the Golden Globe nominations last week. Fans took to social media to express their disappointment over the handsome actor not getting a nomination this year, while his co-star, Caitriona Balfe, received her second Golded Globe Award nomination for her role as Claire Fraser in the series. Across the television landscape, the top shows struggle to receive acting nominations for more than one or two stars, simply because there is too much competition right now. Sam Heughan’s role as Jamie Fraser is said to only get better in season 3, so the actor will just have to sit back, enjoy this Christmas season, and hope that he will get the nomination next year.
