Zendaya took to Instagram to share the stunning new campaign look for Dolce & Gabbana, plus she shared some beauty tips with BYRDIE. The beauty muse met up with the fashion line in Capri, Italy for a colorful day of shooting for the brand’s Summer 2017 campaign, #DGMillenials. The look samples pasta, gelato, and classic D&G accessories, and Zendaya sports a vibrant headscarf instead of the opulent crowns and blooms worn by models on the Spring 2017 runway.
The singer turned 20 on September 1 and she shared some of her makeup and beauty tips with BYRDIE. Considering her skill for makeup and fashion is well beyond her years, there’s something we can all take from her advice. One of Zendaya’s first words of advice is that “there are no rules.” The icon told the magazine, “Beauty has no definition, and if you do create a definition for yourself as you grow older, it’s ever-changing. It’ll be very different from when you’re my age and you’re 18 years old to when you’re 22 and when you’re 30. Take your time.”
Zendaya’s Biggest Tip
She, like Gigi Hadid, also recommends doing makeup looks without contouring. From watching YouTube videos and seeing what she liked and didn’t like from her makeup artists, she found what works for her. “There were a lot of times people would do my makeup and it would be awful, and I would be orange . . . So then you learn how to do your own makeup.” One key tip Zendaya offers is masking a tired face—we could all use some advice here, “I love shimmery stuff. That’s my secret. Once I do all this makeup and I put shimmery powder on, it’s like, ‘Oh my gosh—your skin is so fresh and glowy!’ Nope. It’s actually just shimmer powder.” BYRDIE says the beauty guru loves Urban Decay’s Naked Illuminated Shimmering Powder for Face and Body.
Zendaya is often admired for her perfectly-shaped eyebrows, and she says Kelly Baker is to thank for them. She reportedly did not let anyone touch her eyebrows until she found Baker, who she is comfortable with plucking and waxing. Getting your own makeup artist might be unrealistic, but we can follow what Zendaya has done in the past and watch YouTube tutorials to teach ourselves!
As you can tell from her Instagram account, Zendaya loves to have fun and be unpredictable, “A lot of times, it’s past inspirations. Bianca Jagger was one inspiration; Cher was a huge inspiration for my VMAs look a few years ago. Everything just repeats itself.”
